The Most Excellent Way began in early 1986 in San Diego, CA as a small prayer group gathering desiring to minister to alcoholics, drug addicts, and their families within the church. Today, regularly scheduled support meetings continue to spread across America, Europe, Russian, Mexico, India, The Philippines, and other places around the world--including Australia.
The Most Excellent Way alternative to chemical dependency is becoming GOD-dependent. Our principles of victory are based entirely upon God's Word, the Bible. We are committed to helping those that want help with addiction. We have done our very best to create a safe, comfortable environment where people can feel accepted in spite of what they have done or where they have come from. Although our meetings and studies are described as support groups, they are much more than that; they are victory groups. We strive to help people in every area of their lives to regain the life that addiction has taken over.
All of our meetings and studies are led by people who not only feel your pain; they understand it because they have been there. Most importantly, there is One that understands your pain more than anyone else; His name is Jesus, and He is the One that can take it away. According to God's Word, the Bible, Jesus said, "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36) All of us are all looking for the same things: freedom and rest. Jesus Christ offers to us the freedom from addiction that so many people are looking for.
The understanding of the principle and practice of surrender is the basic need for the recovering addict or alcoholic and their family members. Who or what we surrender to is the key to change. The process of permanently changing outwardly compulsive habits and self-centred behaviour is accomplished from the inside out--it is a matter of the heart. We view victory as God changing us on the inside, which changes what we do on the outside.
The Most Excellent Way is centered upon Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in Matthew Chapter 5. With Jesus' Sermon as our foundation, we learn: to examine our hearts; to be renewed in our minds; to live the spiritual life by putting off the old habits and learning how to live the life that God has always intended for us to live.
Ten Attitudes of Victorious Living is an outline for change. We have seen that, when applied, the promises and principles of the Bible will bring about change. We, therefore, strive to live and share biblical principles and an attitude of love, acceptance, and forgiveness. Jesus said, "If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32)
